The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honorable Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has praised the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea’s efforts at partnering with Nigeria in the development of diverse sectors of the economy.
He gave the commendation while receiving the Ambassador of the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea to Nigeria Mr. Jong Hak Se when he visited the National Assembly recently.
Honorable Tambuwal called for improved bilateral relations between Nigeria and Korea, calling on the Korean Government to sustain their partnership with Nigeria in areas such as science and technology, infrastructural development and information technology in order to assist the country’s efforts in its march towards becoming one of the top 20 economies by the year 2020.
The Speaker also called for enhanced inter parliamentary relations between the Korean House of Parliament and Nigeria’s House of Representatives as a way of supporting the two countries’ bilateral ties.
Earlier, the Korean Ambassador Mr. Jong Hak Se noted that Nigeria and The People’s Republic of Korea have maintained a cordial relation for over 35 years especially in the areas of politics, economics and culture. He also re-echoed his country’s desire to help Nigeria achieve the ambition of being one of the top 20 economies by the year 2020. He stated that this was especially important because in aiding Nigeria’s development, they were in effect aiding the development of the entire African region, pointing out the important role in African affairs that Nigeria plays.
He stated that the hosting of the D-8 Nations by Nigeria last year has gone a long way in ensuring dialogue and a path to progress for developing countries in attendance, and that he said; deserved the full support of the People’s Democratic Republic of Korea. In the same vein, he extended the commendation from the supreme head of the DPRK to President Good Luck Jonathan and the entire Nigerian people in their efforts at fostering and maintaining sustainable peace in Nigeria and the African region, pledging his country’s support for Nigeria’s bid for a permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council.
The Korean Ambassador also asked for further strengthening of ties between Nigeria and the DPRK especially in the areas of Information Technology, Agriculture, and Public Health, as well as Science and Technology. He invited the speaker, Honorable Aminu Waziri Tambuwal to visit Korea in order to liaise on areas of mutual benefit and further strengthen ties between the DPRK and Nigeria.
