The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has enjoined Nigerians to emulate the great virtues of Jesus Christ and work to reinforce the bonds of love and unity which are prerequisites for meaningful national development and global peace.
Senator Ekweremadu who stated this in a Christmas message to Nigerians said the yuletide called for sober reflections on the boundless love of God who sent his only begotten son to redeem and reconcile mankind unto Himself and urged Nigerians to be forgiving and also pray for the peace and prosperity of the nation.
“The coming of Christ and his whole ministry on earth were founded on unconditional love and self-sacrifice, and as we celebrate His birth, it behoves us to rededicate ourselves to the pursuit of peace, love, and selfless service for the good of our souls and Nigeria.” Ekweremadu said.
The Deputy President of the Senate who regretted the spate of insecurity and needless waste of human lives and property in various parts of the country, reiterated that such were totally out of sync with what Christ stood for and called on Nigerians to eschew violence, hatred, and all acts that negate the joy and core values of Christmas if the nation must make the giant leap forward.
Ekweremadu described the nation’s present challenges as temporal and surmountable and assured that members of the National Assembly were committed to legislative best practices for the good governance of the country.
He wished the Christian faithful and indeed all Nigerians a merry Christmas and also prayed God to continue to guide the nation’s leaders and support them with the Christly virtues of humility, wisdom, kindness, and vision for the peace and speedy transformation of the country.
