Pa Aikwuta Mark Immortalised

B. Mark GCON, who died 14 years ago was remembered for his good works.

In a bid to immortalize him, A Pro-AM Golf and Country Club St. Mark, Akpegede, Otukpo was named after him and a Golf Tournament organised in his honour recently. Pa Aikwuta Mark was born in 1920 and he died in 1998 before his son, Sen. Mark became a Senator, representing Benue South Senatorial District of the Upper Legislative Chamber of the National Assembly.

It was a One-Week Golf Tournament event from 31st January to 5th February, 2012 and it was the maiden edition that would be continued on yearly basis. The Professional Tour and Category I spanned from 31st January to 3rd February, 2012, while the Amateur Open mainly for beginners lasted for two days, 4th and 5th February, 2012. In the Programme of Events for the Golf Tournament Booklet, the Children and Grandchildren of Pa Aikwuta showered eulogies on him for the good legacy he left.

In rounding off the events, a Star Prize of N5 Million for the Professional Tour Winner donated by His Excellency, Hon. Gabriel Suswam of Benue State while other prizes included trophy for overall professional winner, Amateur Tournament for Men/Ladies, Ladies Gross, Veterans Men/Ladies; and Special Prizes like flat screen TVs, sewing machines and other electronics items donated by the families of the celebrated Pa and Grand Pa.

The Golf Courses featured both the past and present serving Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, with a huge turnout of invited guests as well as various golfers across the country who witnessed and participated in the games.
